The mind's operating system. Two ways to run it.

Between what happens to you and what you get, your mind runs a system. It filters what comes in, stores it as pictures, sounds and feelings, sets your state, and runs your habits.

Same system, two modes. Watch what changes.

The system runs you. Old code runs in a loop, background processes drain the battery, and what comes out is reasons and excuses. You run the system. The old loops are closed, the battery charges, and what comes out is results.

What each part does

How each part works, and where you can change it.

  • Filters

    Filters decide what gets in.

Everyone filters. Wider filters let in what you used to skip.

  • Your map

The map is a model of the world. Not the world.

You build it from pictures, sounds and feelings, and you update it when it stops matching.

  • State

State is how you feel right now. Decisions come out of it.

Notice the state you're in. Then choose the one you want to act from.

  • Programs

A habit is a program. Often it's old code in a loop.

Written for objectives you no longer have. You can read it, debug it, and rewrite it for the ones you have now.

  • Background processes

Apps that don't respond, still draining the battery.

That's what an inner conflict feels like. If it isn't useful, we stop running it.

  • Core settings

Beliefs, values and identity set the defaults.

That's why I look for the root. Change a default, and the layers above run on the new one.

  • Feedback loop

    From effect to cause.

You can hear it in the sentence. On autopilot it starts with ‘they’. At the controls it starts with ‘I’: what can I do differently?

  • Observer

Step back and watch the system run.

From inside, you are the process. From outside, you can see the pattern.
